I have always had an interest in being a model but being a size 10/12 isn’t the conventional size for a model, so after a few approaches by model agencies in the high street that never went anywhere I pretty much gave up on the idea.
After seeing pictures of the 2010 Miss Southport on Facebook, I decided to research the competition and found that I could enter online very quickly and easily, so without even thinking of where it could lead me, I entered.
I entered to develop my confidence and basically have a nice time and hopefully meet some new friends, which I certainly did! I really wasn’t expecting to win the title but I was excited to take part in a completely new experience!
Although I have enjoyed everything, the day of the competition was probably the best part.
I was really nervous the morning of the final and really didn’t know what to expect.
I didn’t know if all the other girls would know what they were doing and I would feel out of place but it was not like that at all, everyone was really friendly and we were all chatting away all day.
It was so exciting preparing for the show, especially the rehearsals with the choreographer Lisa, which added a really professional touch and made me even more excited for the show.
I had never walked on a catwalk or anything like that before, and it was so fun to be in the spotlight.
The venue was actually perfect too, the long catwalk down the middle seemed scary at first but it felt great walking down it throughout the show.
Obviously it was amazing to actually win, but even if I hadn’t have won, I had an amazing day and met some lovely girls.
Everyone was really down to earth which helped put me at ease. Having some of last year’s heat winners there also helped make me feel at ease as they gave us lots of advice!
It has given me a lot more confidence and the ability to speak in front of a large audience which I think is a very important skill to have.
I feel a lot more comfortable meeting new people and adapting to situations that I have never experienced before.
What I love about the competition is that there was no bikini round, so you don’t have to be a size 8 with no wobbly bits to win. This factor of the competition has given me a lot more confidence in my own body.
I would definitely encourage anyone to enter the competition because it is brilliant! It offers so many opportunities for the future, and the chance to make it to the Miss England Final is also an exciting prospect. I have told all my friends to consider entering because it is so much fun and I can’t wait to crown next year’s winner!
I entered Miss Southport to gain self confidence and do something I had never done before and make new friends.
I have made new friends and it has made me want to progress and hopefully get into modelling.
Taking part in Miss Southport helped my confidence a lot, it was in fact a bit step for me.
If you’re thinking of entering – Do it! It’s such a fabulous experience!
Good luck to those who do it next year! I hope they have as much fun as I did!
I entered Miss Southport to help me with my confidence issues, after a photographers suggested it too me.
The best part of the experience was the people I met because of it. I have made friends for life through Miss Southport.
Taking part in Miss Southport gave me a real confidence boost, having been bullied when I was a young teen and struggling with my weight for many years Miss Southport showed me that I wasn’t what all the bullies said I was.
If you’re thinking of entering Miss Southport go for it and enjoy every single minute of it.
Be yourself and smile the whole way through it, because you meet the most amazing people whilst doing it.
I truly loved every minute of it and would do it all again in the blink of an eye
I thought I’d give Miss Southport a go as I’d never entered a beauty pageant before. I wanted to boost my self confidence and I thought entering Miss Southport/Miss England would help me to achieve this and it did.
The highlight for me was obviously coming 2nd, and I loved every minute of the experience and meeting so many lovely girls and making new friends.
Taking part in Miss Southport has boosted my confidence in a lot of ways especially when talking in front of large groups of people.
If you’re thinking of entering Miss Southport definitely go for it, you will love every minute of it. You’ll meet some lovely people, boost your self confidence and have memories to treasure forever.
I entered Miss Southport because I have always wanted to get into modelling but previously didn’t have the confidence and I thought entering a beauty pageant would give me some experience.
The best part was meeting some lovely people and making some good friends.
By taking part in Miss Southport I proved to myself that I am capable of doing the things that I never thought I would have the confidence to do and in the future I would like to enter more pageants.
If you’re thinking of entering just to have fun, be yourself and don’t take it all too seriously. Fair enough it’s a competition but if you enter just for the experience rather than wanting to win, then it’s a bonus if you do win.
I might not have won Miss Southport, but it was a great experience for me and something I thought I would never in my life be able to do!
